Trains suspend operations due to ‘Karding’

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 25) — Train services were suspended early on Sunday after parts of Metro Manila were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 due to Typhoon Karding.

In a tweet, the operator of LRT-1 announced the early suspension of its services.

“The last train from Baclaran Station is scheduled to leave earlier at 5 p.m., while the last trip from Balintawak Station is at 5:15 p.m.,” the Light Rail Manila Corporation said.

LRT-2 also ended its operations early on Sunday with the last train from Antipolo station leaving at 6 p.m., and the train from Recto station in Manila at 6:30 p.m.

In MRT-3, the last train from North Avenue departed at 6 p.m., while the train from Taft Avenue left the station at 6:38 p.m.

At the Philippine National Railways, train trips in Metro Manila, Lucena City in Quezon, and San Pablo City in Laguna were suspended starting at 3:15 p.m.

Later in the day, the management announced that all trips on Monday will also be suspended, adding that they will provide the public an update on the resumption of PNR operations.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board advised all roll-on/roll-off (RORO) Public Utility Buses to suspend their trips.

“Bus operators are instructed to attend to the needs of their passengers, specially those who are already stranded in the ports,” it added.

The state weather bureau said Karding made landfall over Burdeos, Quezon at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, as more areas in Luzon were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5.

Karding made its second landfall in Dingalan, Aurora at 8:20 p.m.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 is currently raised over the northern part of Metro Manila, while the rest are under Signal No. 3

Authorities said heavy to intense with at times torrential rains may be experienced in Metro Manila and other nearby areas until Monday.
