DOH logs 1,399 new COVID-19 cases from April 25 to May 1

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 2) — The Department of Health (DOH) logged 1,399 new COVID-19 infections and 215 new fatalities in the week of April 25 to May 1.

In its weekly bulletin posted on Monday, the DOH said the daily average of that week was 200 cases, about 5% lower than the previous week.

Of the 215 reported new deaths, 40 occurred from April 18 to May 1 while the rest occurred in previous months, including as far back as September 2020.

The non-intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rate was at 16.3% or 3,998 out of 24,521 beds are being used. Meanwhile, 456 out of 2,830 ICU beds — or about 16.1% — are occupied.

There are currently 723 critical and severe cases staying in hospitals — 13.4% of total COVID-19 admissions, the bulletin showed.

As for vaccination coverage, 75.45% of the target population and 76.48% of the target elderly population (A2) have been inoculated, DOH said.

Over 67.9 million people have been vaccinated, including 425,985 who received shots in the recent week.

Meanwhile, more than 12.2 million have been boosted, including 292,369 who got their booster shots in the recent week.
