The Department of Health on Monday said that there was an increase in the number of dengue cases in the country.
In a media briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergerie said the rise in dengue cases was recorded in Regions 2, 3, 7, 9, and CAR.
“When we say pagtaas, we compare the number of cases today with the previous time period, the same time period last year. Para masabi natin if they are going or nearing the epidemic threshold na tinatawag,” Vergerie explained.

“Sa ngayon mino-monitor natin closely ang mga areas na ito. Nakapagbigay na tayo ng (We are currently closely monitoring these areas. We have already provided) assistance and guidance to these areas,” she added.
Last month, a dengue outbreak was declared in Zamboanga City as cases reached 893, including 11 deaths, for the period January 1 to April 2. As of April 16, Zamboanga City recorded 1,135 cases with 14 deaths.
To contain the possible epidemic of dengue, Vergerie said they have activated dengue fast lanes and provided logistical assistance in affected areas.
She also reminded the public to observe the “four-S” in preventing dengue cases such as search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites, seek early consultations, self-protection measures, and support spraying/fogging.
“So, we do the four-S – kailangan po natin maglinis ng ating mga paligid, ating likuran. Linisin po natin ang lahat ng nakakaipon ng tubig, lahat po ng mga kuyagot. Let’s do the four S every 4 pm,” Vergeire said.

“We advised all local governments also to activate and mobilize their dengue brigades. Para po mapigilan natin ang further na pagkalat at pagtaas ng sakit na ito,” she added.
