The University of the Philippines Bike Share has lent more than 90 bicycles to medical workers without transportation amid the Metro Manila lockdown.
In a report from DZMM Teleradyo, UP Bike Share sent at least 92 bikes to St. Lukes, Philippine Orthopedic Center, Philippine Heart Center, and Philippine Children’s Medical Center.
Since classes are currently suspended due to the lockdown, they decided to lend the bicycles to front liners.
Should cycling become a part of the new normal, bike lanes need to be fixed, the group said.
“They do not know how to avoid bikers. Others do not respect the bike lane. They do not look at the door,
there may be a bike coming,” said Jesse Rasco, an UP Bike Share alumni.
The group started lending bicycles to students in 2016.
UP Bike Share is a non-profit advocacy group of undergraduate students aiming to providing free use of bikes for students in UPD as part of a plan to provide better transportation for the UPD community.
