GMA Regional TV Balitang Bicolandia reported Thursday that the teacher was swept away by the raging spillway water after trying to save his friend from drowning.

An initial investigation report by the Bato Municipal Police Station indicates that the victim and his co-teacher were biking across a spillway when the tragedy struck.

The report said the victim drowned after trying to rescue his colleague who was able to swim to safety.

“Hindi naman galing sa school [ang dalawa]. Kumbaga nag-survey lang ng area kung pwedeng daanan ‘yung lugar. Humupa na ‘yung ulan. “yung tubig diyan, medyo malakas pa rin ‘yung agos,” Bato MPS officer-in-charge Police Captain Reymond Quinito said.

(They did not come from school. They just surveyed the area to see if it was passable. At the time, the rain has subsided, but the current in the spillway was quite strong.) —LBG, GMA News
