Vice President Leni Robredo’s office is eyeing possible cooperation with more local government units in Metro Manila for its app-based delivery service.
“We hope to open more kapag nakahanap kami ng LGU partners (once we find LGU partners),” Robredo, who is the leader of the opposition, said.
Robredo has shown interest in expanding the Community Mart program to other areas after it generated P2 million worth of sales in the cities of Quezon and Pasig.
The mobile app, which is downloadable from the App Store and Google Play, aims to help small market vendors and tricycle drivers affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
This connects consumers with market vendors who will have their fruits, meat, vegetables, and other food items delivered by tricycle drivers with same-day service.
The e-market project also helps residents stay at home and prevent them from exposure to the deadly virus.
It piloted at the Kamuning Market on May 12 servicing nine barangays, followed by Pasig City with goods delivered to residents sourced from the Pasig Mega Market.
Two weeks after its implementation in Quezon City, Robredo said it reached P1 million in sales, while Pasig City hit the million peso mark in a week.
The tricycle drivers, she noted, are now earning from P700 to P1,200 per day from the online delivery service after being jobless for two months due to the enhanced community quarantine.
“Wala sila (They don’t) capacity to have online presence so that’s what we gave them,” the vice president said.
