Vice President Leni Robredo said the private donations for the coronavirus response are more than just numbers, but it’s an affirmation of her “faith in the goodness of Filipinos.”
Robredo, who chairs the opposition Liberal Party, acknowledged her office was able to respond to the needs of the people affected by the pandemic because of the goodwill of many private partners and donors.
“These past few months, we have been overwhelmed by the trust and generosity of our kababayans (countrymen),” she wrote in a Facebook post.
“Dahil sa inyong tiwala at pakikiisa, naging posible ang ating pagsuporta sa ating frontliners at mga kababayang nangangailangan sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa (Because of your trust and solidarity, our support for frontliners and countrymen in need from various parts of the country has become possible),” she added.
For the sake of transparency, the Office of the Vice President released the latest update on its ongoing COVID-19 assistance drive, including the number of personal protective equipment sets, food packs, and medical supplies that have been distributed and the hospitals and communities that received them.
The OVP has raised P53.87 million for the purchase of 321,480 PPE sets and P7.99 million for 15,985 food and care packages. Of the figures, 178,725 PPEs and 14,741 food and care packages have been delivered.
These PPEs benefited 11,915 frontliners and 1,011 institutions, while P8.8-million worth of hot meals and snacks were distributed to various hospitals, checkpoints, and communities.
Robredo’s office, in partnership with the private sector, has also set up 12 dormitories, temporary shelters under The Oasis Project, and provided free haircut services to 541 frontliners.
The report also noted the OVP had allocated P20 million from its funds for testing and extraction kits enough for 10,000 and 12,750 tests, respectively.
The other assistance include the gadget donations and community hubs for distance learning, free bus rides for locally stranded individuals, locally produced PPEs for frontliners, and e-market project to help small market vendors and tricycle drivers.
“As we often say, trust is the currency that we work with. This is why we put much emphasis on transparency,” Robredo said.
“And these updates are more than just numbers; they affirm my faith in the goodness of the Filipino,” she stressed.
The vice president expressed her gratitude again to all those who helped her office‘s initiatives in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
