RESPONSE CLUSTER ACTIVATED
7.2 MAGNITUDE EARTQUAKE HIT METRO MANILA
Manila, Philippines —-The most feared 7.2 magnitude earthquake has hit Metro Manila at 09:00AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. PHIVOLCS said that this was caused by the movement of the West Valley Fault hardly affecting Marikina, Pasig, Makati, San Juan, and Quezon City.
Widespread severe damage is reported all over the metro especially in Makati City and Ortigas Center where the high-rise buildings are concentrated. Damage is reported as far as the Candaba Viaduct being nonpassable at this time of writing due to a large crack crossing southbound lanes.
President Noynoy Aquino has immediately decreed a state of emergency. He said: “We have diligently prepared for this yet no preparation is enough when thousands of lives are lost. We pray for them and their families. We stand together and rebuild together. We could definitely overcome this tragedy. Our Filipino brothers as far as Aparri and Jolo are coming to help clean up the rubbles, find the lost, bury the dead and rebuild the broken. This’ what’s makes us Filipinos making me proud to have once lead this race.”
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council estimated atleast 115,000 dead; 356,000 injured and 65,000 lost. Damaged structure is still being assessed as of this time.
The Metro Manila Development Authority has immediately activated the four quadrants as well as the pre-assigned government and volunteer rescue assets. Official Evacuation areas for North Quadrant (Quezon City, Valenzuela, Caloocan and San Juan) is in grounds of Veteran’s Memorial Medical Center, South Quadrant (Makati, Taguid, Pateros, Parañaque and Muntinlupa) is in Villamor Golf Course, West Quadrant (Pasay, Manila and Malabon) in Intramuros Golf Course and lastly the East Quadrant (Marikina and Pasig) in the LRT2 Santolan Depot.
Everybody is being warned by PHIVOLCS for succeeding aftershocks.
