Prioritize NCR residents in vaccination – OCTA

The National Capital Region (NCR) should be prioritized in the government’s vaccination program in order to slow down the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, an expert from the OCTA Research Group said on Thursday (March 18).

In an interview with DZBB, Dr. Guido David said the NCR “cannot really wait” for vaccination because the region is already experiencing a surge in cases.

“NCR is the logical place to prioritize instead of distributing our vaccines to places where the risk right now is low. Maybe they can wait a little longer,” David said.

David said the Philippines will “probably” see “some effect” of the vaccination if about 30 percent of the country’s population has been inoculated.

The expert also cited Israel as an example, saying the country only saw a downward trend in its cases after vaccinating 50 percent of its population.

David also urged the government to acknowledge that the new variants might be causing the surge of cases in the country.

“Wala namang mawawala if we act early di ba? (There’s nothing to lose if we act early right?),” he said.
