Metro Manila – The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has approved the extension of travel restrictions on India and six other countries until July 31, the Palace announced on Wednesday.
Presidential and IATF Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed during his regular noon briefing that entry restrictions on travelers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, and Oman has been extended until the end of the month.
The current ban, imposed to prevent the spread of the highly transmissible Delta coronavirus variant first discovered in India, was set to lapse Thursday, July 15.
Roque added the IATF technical working group has also been instructed to review further and make recommendations on the appropriate testing and quarantine protocols for travelers coming from these nations and other countries that may be identified as high-risk.
There are 4,500 stranded overseas Filipino workers in the UAE, according to the Department of Labor.
Three more repatriation flights will be mounted by the Department of Foreign Affairs for these workers before the end of the month.
