The Pasig City government on Tuesday (June 16) started the house-to-house distribution of assistance to senior citizens under the city’s hospice program.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Mayor Vico Sotto said around 200 elderly beneficiaries received medicines, milk, and diapers from the local government on the first day of the distribution.

“Para hindi na lumabas ng bahay ang mga senior citizen para kunin ang tulong sa Hospice, nagsimula na ang house-to-house delivery ng mga diaper, gatas, at gamot para sa tatlong buwan, mula sa lokal na pamahalaan (So that senior citizens need not leave their homes to pick up the Hospice relief goods, we have started the house-to-house delivery of diapers, milk, and medicines good for three months, from the local government),” Sotto said.

At the same time, Sotto said food packs, P1,000-worth of food coupons, and the senior citizens’ social pensions were also distributed.

The mayor personally accompanied the team delivering the assistance to oversee the distribution.

To date, Sotto said Pasig’s hospice program, which primarily provides medical assistance to indigent residents in the city, has more than 2,400 elderly beneficiaries.

“Karamihan sa kanila ay bedridden o hirap nang maglakad (Most of them are bedridden or have difficulty walking),” he said.

The local chief executive said the city government will expand the program through the city’s localized version of the Universal Health Care program.

However, he said the plan was delayed because of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
