NDRRMC: Over P21M agri damage reported due to Aghon

Typhoon Aghon left agricultural damage worth P21,651,548, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

In its report on Thursday, NDRRMC said a total of 369 farmers and fisherfolks were affected by the typhoon. 

Aghon also damaged crops on 292.9 hectares, as well as livestock, poultry, and fisheries worth P448,300.NDRRMC earlier said a total of 51,858 people or 16,404 families were affected by Aghon. Most of them were reported in Calabarzon with 25,980 and Bicol with 10,675.

It also left seven people dead, most of them from Quezon province. Among the deceased were two men, aged 56 and 22, who drowned, and a 39-year-old man who was hit by a falling tree.

A total of 51,858 people or 16,404 families were affected by Aghon, according to the NDRRMC. Most of them were reported in Calabarzon with 25,980 and Bicol with 10,675.

Assistance worth P6,765,912 has been provided to the victims in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol, and Central Visayas, according to NDRRMC.

Aghon left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday. 

However, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat continues to affect the western section of Luzon on Thursday, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, according to PAGASA.

PAGASA has also declared the start of the rainy season in the country after significant rain was observed in the past few days over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas due to the occurrence of scattered rain showers, frequent thunderstorms, the passage of Typhoon Aghon, and Habagat. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
