Metro Manila — The Nagtahan flyover in Manila will be closed to trucks and trailers starting Feb. 20 after cracks were found in the structure.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Friday said around 2,200 truck and trailer drivers will be affected daily by the closure. Only light vehicles will be allowed to pass the flyover as it undergoes repair.
“We know how vital it is, but upon the recommendation of the DPWH, due to safety issues, then we have to close it from the use of trucks and heavy vehicles,” MMDA chief of staff Michael Salalima told CNN Philippines.
Truckers are advised to take the following alternative routes:
– Southbound heavy vehicles may take Earnshaw Street, Legarda Street, Ayala Street and P. Burgos Street to Roxas Boulevard.
– Northbound heavy vehicles may take Quirino Avenue to Roxas Boulevard; Quirino Avenue Extension to United Nations Avenue to Roxas Boulevard.
Salalima said there is no timeline yet when the repairs to the wingwall, concrete pedestal of the steel railings, and circular joint jackets will be completed.
The Nagtahan flyover, which was opened in 1992, is included in the DPWH’s list of Metro Manila bridges due for repair.
