More than 9,000 individuals affected by flooding from tail-end of frontal system

A total of 9,158 persons or 2,409 families were affected by the flooding and landslides due to the tail-end of a frontal system, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said in a report on Sunday.

The affected persons were from 70 barangays in MIMAROPA, Region V and Region VI.

Of the total number of affected individuals, 2,067 persons or 562 families are staying in 13 evacuation centres.

Meanwhile, 1,224 persons or 450 families are staying with relatives.

The death toll remained at two and the number of missing persons was still four. The fatalities and missing persons were reported in Region V.

The NDRRMC said 30 flooding incidents were reported in Region II (Cagayan), MIMAROPA (Palawan and Oriental Mindoro), Region V (Camarines Sur, Sorsogon) and Region VI (Capiz).

One boat capsized on Dec. 30 in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro with five persons onboard. The passengers were all rescued on Dec. 31 by the Philippine Coast Guard.

A total of 19 road sections and three bridges in Regions II, MIMAROPA, V, and VI were not passable due to flooding.

Meanwhile, 12 barangays in Silay City, Negros Occidental had power interruptions since January 1.

The NDRRMC said 54 houses in Regions V and VI were damaged, of which 31 were totally damaged and 23 were partially damaged.

The Inocencio V. Ferrer School of Fisheries in Talisay City, Negros Occidental suffered damage when its wall collapsed due to the flooding.

The tail-end of a frontal system continues to affect Southern Luzon on Sunday, bringing rains to at least 10 areas in different parts of the country, state weather bureau PAGASA said. —KG, GMA News
