Modified number coding in NCR starting June 8

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced Thursday that it will start implementing the modified number coding scheme in the National Capital Region (NCR) starting Monday, June 8.
Under the modified scheme, all private vehicles are exempted from the coding scheme provided that each must have two or more passengers, including the driver, to maximize its capacity.
The MMDA has reminded passengers to always wear face masks and observe physical distancing inside the vehicle as part of the safety measures now the metropolis is under general community quarantine (GCQ).
Vehicles of health workers and other medical personnel are excluded from the coding scheme, the MMDA said, citing the MMDA Regulation 2020-001 Series of 2020 which was approved by members of the Metro Manila Council (MMC).
MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia earlier clarified that medical frontliners will have the privilege to use their coded-vehicles when the modified number coding scheme is imposed in Metro Manila.
Garcia made the clarification after reaping backlash from netizens, who are mostly working in the medical field, due to his earlier pronouncements.
The MMDA said all Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) specified under the guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases are also exempted.
Likewise, the MMDA ordered operators of transport network vehicle service (TNVS) should also attach signage on their vehicles so they could easily be identified as TNVS.
“The regulation was unanimously approved by all the mayors of the 17 local government units of Metro Manila during the last MMC meeting held on May 26, 2020 via video conference,” the agency said. #
