Magnitude 5.1 earthquake hits Occidental Mindoro

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The tectonic quake recorded at 12:08 p.m. was initially measured at magnitude 4.8. The latest Phivolcs update reported that it hit 15 kilometers northeast of Sablayan with a depth of 15 km.
Meanwhile, these intensities were felt in the following areas:
Intensity IV – Sablayan and Rizal, Occidental Mindoro
Intensity III – Abra De Ilog, Santa Cruz and Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro; Calapan City and Bansud, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity II – Makati City; Batangas City; Baco, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity I – Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Tingloy, Batangas
Instrumental intensities were also recorded in these areas:
Intensity IV – Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity III – Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity II – Roxas, Oriental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Batangas City
Intensity I – Tagaytay City, Cavite; Mulanay, Mauban, Gumaca and Dolores, Quezon
Aftershocks and damage were expected, the Phivolcs said.
The agency also said that the Tuesday noon earthquake is an aftershock of the magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro last Oct. 3.
