The House of Representatives recorded its 44th case of COVID-19 after another employee tested positive for the disease.
House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales, in a Sunday statement, said that the new COVID-19 case in the House was an employee from the Plenary Support Service.
She reported for work from August 3 to 5, and was a close contact of another confirmed case from the Committee on Rules.
Montales said contact tracing with regard to this new case was ongoing.
It was earlier confirmed that Senior Citizens party-list Representative Francisco “Jun” Datol Jr. died of acute respiratory distress due to COVID-19.
Datol is the fifth House member who contracted the disease, after Deputy Speaker Mujiv Hataman and Johnny Pimentel, and Representatives Henry Villarica and Samier Tan.
Hataman last week reported that he and his wife, Mayor Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, were no longer experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and were thus no longer quarantined.
As of August 16, a total of 161,253 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Philippines, with 2,665 deaths and 112,586 recoveries. — DVM, GMA News
