The European Union (EU) is providing the Philippine government a total of P3.4 billion in financial agreement to support lasting peace and sustainable development in Mindanao.

Thomas Wiersing, the EU Delegation to the Philippines Chargé d’Affaires, led the ceremonial turnover of the financing agreement at the Department of Finance (DoF) office in Manila, Friday, with Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III.

The agreement assigns P2 billion to Rise Mindanao and P1.4 billion to the Bangsamoro Transition (SUBATRA).

Rise Mindanao is meant to provide farmers, women, youth, and indigenous people, livelihood opportunities.

SUBATRA, on the other hand, is meant to help consolidate the hard-won peace in the Bangsamoro region by supporting the new administration, the parliament, the new judicial system, and the civil society through its transition.

“The EU has always been a reliable, impartial and committed partner in the pursuit of peace and development in Mindanao,” Wiersing intoned, stressing the financing agreement is reaffirmation of this commitment.
