Energy Dev’t Corp lends container vans to host LGUs’ quarantine rooms
MANILA – Energy Development Corp said Wednesday it lent container vans for use as COVID-19 quarantine rooms to its host communities in several provinces.
The Lopez-led geothermal power firm said 11 container vans were lent to Ormoc City in Leyte; Valencia in Negros Oriental; Burgos in Ilocos Norte; and Kidapawan City and Cotobato Province.
“We, at EDC, have decided to lend our container vans to some of the municipalities and cities across the country to provide an extra space either for their patients or for the medical front liners,” said
EDC Corporate Social Responsibility–Public Relations Head Allan Barcena.
A 20-foot air-conditioned container van is now being used by the Department of Health as an extension of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital’s (NOPH) swab facility for suspected COVID-19 cases, EDC said.
The container van was also used to pack specimens for testing in Vicente Sotto Medical Memorial Hospital in Cebu City.
EDC’s 40-foot container vans in Ormoc City are being used by medical frontliners as their quarantine facility before they could go home after a 14-day duty in Kananga Hospital and Ormoc Hospital, the company said.
Each of the containers — 2 for each hospital — can accommodate up to 7 frontliners with strict observance of physical distancing, it said.
“This is a big help because prior to the lending of the van, our nurses are accommodated in one room only, and masikip talaga (it’s really cramped), but this time, they have now a very comfortable and spacious room as a quarantine room,” said Ormoc City Health nurse Jester Zacarias
In Mindanao, EDC lent 3 20-foot container vans with aircon to Kidapawan City Hospital and Amas Provincial Hospital. Three vans in Burgos, Ilocos Sur meanwhile will be used as an isolation facility for probable and suspected COVID-19 cases.
In the Bicol region, 6 other container vans are expected to be deployed in the next few days also as isolation and monitoring facilities for possible COVID-19 cases.
