Distribution of second tranche of cash aid seen to start this week

Distribution of the second tranche of the government cash aid to qualified beneficiaries may start this week even as the distribution of the first one was not yet completely finished, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Tuesday.
During the regular Laging Handa public briefing, DSWD Undersecretary Rene Glen Paje said the distribution of the first tranche of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) aid still needs “finishing touches.”
“Mga finishing touches na lang po ang ginagawa natin sa first tranche at uumpisahan na natin ang second tranche,” Paje said.
“Inaasahan po natin sa linggong ito ay sisimulan na ang pagbibigay ng second tranche ng pamamahagi ng SAP na ayuda,” he added.
According to Paje, beneficiaries under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) will receive the aid first since they already underwent a deduplication process. Afterward, the distribution will proceed to areas that also completed the validation.
He explained that the delay in the distribution was caused by the validation process. Aside from this, he said the DSWD is also considering the safety of their personnel in the operation.
During the first tranche, 11 SAP workers were infected by COVID-19 and over 900 underwent self-quaratine.
The program aims to ease the financial impact of COVID-19 among affected families in the country. –KBK, GMA News
