DFA: 34 more Filipinos abroad contract COVID-19, total tally at 5,218

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 1) — Thirty-four more Filipinos abroad have contracted COVID-19, while 16 more recovered and another three died, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Monday.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases among Filipinos abroad to 5,218. Of this number, 2,167 have recovered, while 342 died.

According to the DFA, the latest figures show “the daily rate of confirmed cases decreased, while daily rate of recoveries increased.”

Filipinos who recovered from the disease were mostly in the Americas and Middle East, the DFA added.

The DFA assured they will continue to actively monitor Filipinos abroad, especially now that more countries are easing their travel and mobility restrictions, similar to that taking place in the National Capital Region.

More than 6.1 million cases of coronavirus have been reported worldwide, including at least 372,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In the Philippines, the Department of Health reported 552 additional COVID-19 cases on Monday, with 119 of these detected in the last three days, while the other 433 are part of the validation backlog.

The nationwide tally of infections climbed to 18,638, with 960 deaths and 3,979 recoveries.
