COVID-19 cases in Correctional Institute for Women rise to 47

The number of inmates who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the Correctional Institute for Women has climbed to 47.
According to a 24 Oras report by Marisol Abdurahman on Monday, the COVID-19 cases from the facility have been transferred to the Medium Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison for treatment.
Forty other inmates who are suspected COVID-19 cases are undergoing quarantine at Site Harry.
“Dito po ay malawak, malaki at kaniya-kaniya po silang buildings. And ‘yung lahat ng kailangan nila—vitamins, food supplement—binibigay natin sa kanila,” Bureau of Corrections spokesman Gabriel Chaclag said.
“Ito po ay walled facility, 12 meters high po ang perimeter wall and we have five buildings inside. Hindi rin basta-basta makapag-access ka do’n sa ibang building from another building kasi may mga barriers siya at naka-lock po ‘yun,” he added.
Chaclag also said they have distributed alcohol, soap, and disinfectants to inmates. -Julia Mari Ornedo/NB, GMA News
