Caring for those who cared for us: May 7 is Health Workers’ Day

Filipino health care workers have been at the forefront of the country’s battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), in many instances risking even their lives in the effort to protect the populace.

While most people are at home with their families, medical workers continue to heed the call of their duty to provide care in the midst of the war against an unseen enemy.

Coinciding with the nation’s fight against COVID-19 is the observation of Health Workers’ Day on May 7.

Signed in 2010, the Republic Act No. 10069 marks the seventh day of May every year as a special working holiday to recognize the vital functions of health workers.

The law also aims to promote the rights and welfare of health personnel and to enhance their sense of worth and dignity.

Everyone can share their messages of appreciation for Filipino health workers by posting them online with the hashtag #SalamatFrontliners.
