Cardinal Tagle tests positive for COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 11) – Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has tested positive for COVID-19 upon his arrival in Manila on Thursday, the Vatican News confirmed.

According to the report of the Vatican’s news arm, Tagle was examined yesterday but he did not show any symptoms. He will undergo quarantine, it added.


Moreover, the report also said that necessary checks are being carried out on those who had close contact with Tagle in the past days.

Before returning to Manila, Tagle was in Turin, Italy to attend the espicopal ordination of the new Apostolic Nuncio for Mongolia, Fr. Giorgio Marengo.

Tagle was appointed by Pope Francis as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. He is the second Asian to hold the post.
