Security cameras on Monday (February 12) captured the moment a California home near the Mexico border was struck by a series of earthquakes.
Footage shared by an El Centro resident showed shaking in multiple locations of their home such as a car porch and the kitchen, where the tremors caused cabinet doors to open and items to fall off a counter. “In El Centro and imperial was felt bad. Even our dog ran away. Stay safe,” read a caption posted with the video on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Multiple earthquakes shook the city on Monday, with the largest registering a magnitude of 4.8 just after midnight, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). No injuries were reported within El Centro.
Since midnight, over two dozen earthquakes have been reported in the area. The city of El Centro confirmed damage to an apartment complex, where a waterline break occurred due to a toppled water heater, resulting in minor flooding. Across the border in Mexicali, Baja California, classes were suspended as a precaution while the State Council of Civil Protection assesses school buildings. – report from Reuters
