CEBU — The death toll from the landslide in the Binaliw Landfill in Cebu City is now at 35.

This was confirmed by Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak after three cadavers were recovered on Saturday.

Two were recovered at 2:53 p.m. while the other was recovered at 3:10 p.m.

All three are yet to be identified.

“This is Santo Niño’s Miracle that we are now just looking for one out of 36,” Tumulak said in a message to ABS-CBN News.

Search operations continue to find the last victim of the trash slide.

A mountain of garbage toppled last January 8 in Cebu City, burying the sanitation workers.

The Cebu City council declared January 16 as a day of mourning for the victims. A state of calamity has also been declared, allowing for the release of P30-M through the city’s quick response fund to pay for garbage disposal services.

Prime Integrated Waste Solutions Inc., operator of the Binaliw landfill, said the garbage collapse was likely triggered by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake in September 2025, its aftershocks, and extreme rainfall from Typhoon Tino, based on the initial assessment of city officials and experts.

The company said it provided financial assistance and psychosocial services to the families of affected employees, covered medical expenses for the injured, and shouldered funeral and burial costs.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday offered prayers and a moment of silence for the victims. — With a report from Agence France-Presse
