A mother’s call of duty

Answering her call of duty, Philippine Army Sgt. Blossom Mamauag, 37, has been separated from her young son for 55 days after President Rodrigo Duterte placed Luzon under enhanced community quarantine in March.
Mamauag and her husband, who also works in the military, were forced to cancel their family vacation plans and left their son to her brother’s care in Caloocan City as they attended to their respective responsibilities.
As part of the military’s logistics team for COVID-19 response, she helps monitor deployed troops in Makati and Pateros and distribute meals and other provisions to officers manning checkpoints.
This involvement in the pandemic response and the lockdown in Luzon made it difficult for her to visit her son.
But finally, she is ready to heed the call of her other duty: being a mom. On the eve of Mother’s day, Mamauag took a leave of absence to finally reunite with her child.
