38 more Filipinos contract COVID-19 abroad; total now at 2,178

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) — Thirty-eight more Filipinos abroad catch the coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of infections to 2,178, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Saturday.

The number of recoveries has reached the 600 mark, with a total of 640 overseas Filipinos surviving the viral illness.

On the other hand, 253 patients have succumbed to it, with the biggest number of deaths coming from the Americas, followed by Europe.

Filipinos from 46 countries and regions are affected by the respiratory disease, the DFA says.

In the Philippines, the Department of Health reported 147 additional cases on Saturday, with the total number of infections climbing up to 10,610.

The death toll has also risen to 704, while 1,842 have been cured.
