222 BuCor inmates test positive for COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 4) – A total of 222 inmates at the Bureau of Corrections were infected with COVID-19, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Of the total number, DOJ Undersecretary Markk Perete said 31 have recovered from the virus while 10 died.

In a statement, Perete said the New Bilibid Prison has the most number of COVID-19 infections, with 30 cases from the facilities managed by the BuCor.

Moreover, 48 BuCor personnel also tested positive for the virus with four already recovered.

Perete said the DOJ turned over 1,400 rapid test kits to BuCor on Monday to test more inmates.
