Quakes shake Taal

Twenty-nine volcanic earthquakes were felt in some areas in Batangas after restive Taal Volcano continued to manifest seismic activity, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said yesterday.

The volcanic earthquakes were recorded by Phivolcs in the last 24 hours around Taal Volcano. Alert Level 1 has been hoisted by Phivolcs and remains in effect. “Hazardous eruption is not imminent.

The public, however, is reminded that the main crater should be strictly off-limits,” Philvocs said in its latest bulletin. Phivolcs warned the public not to get close to the crater because “sudden steam explosions may occur and high concentrations of toxic gases may accumulate.”
