Phivolcs: No volcanic quake at Mayon in last 24 hrs

Mayon Volcano remained relatively calm as there was no volcanic quake recorded there in the last 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Monday.

But Phivolcs, in its Monday update, said there was visual observation of weak to moderate steaming activity that crept downslope and drifted west-northwest and west southwest.
No crater glow was observed Sunday night, it said.
Phivolcs said Mayon's alert status is at Alert Level 2, which means that the likelihood of hazardous eruption within days to weeks has lessened.
However, it reiterated the lowering of the alert status does not mean Mayon's unrest has ceased, "considering that deeper beneath it eruptible magma has already accumulated."
It also reminded public not to enter the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone due to perennial hazards of rockfalls, avalanche, ash puffs and sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions at the summit area.
"Furthermore, people living in valleys and active river channels are cautioned to remain vigilant against sediment-laden streamflows and lahars in the event of prolonged and heavy rainfall," it added. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
