Magnitude 5.4 quake felt in southern Luzon

December 31, 2014 6:05pm A magnitude-5.4 quake occurred in the southern part of Luzon on the last afternoon of 2014 and was felt in parts of Metro Manila, state seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology also said that while no damage was expected, aftershocks are possible.
In its initial bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake was at 17 km southwest of Calatagan in Batangas and was 108 km deep.
It occurred at 5:26 p.m. and was felt at Intensity III in Quezon City and in Calatagan, Batangas.
The United States Geological Survey said the quake measured magnitude 5.2, and was recorded at 5:26 p.m.
USGS said the epicenter was at:
- 7 km south-southeast of Hukay, Philippines
- 11 km east-southeast of Calatagan, Philippines
- 17 km south of Balayan, Philippines
- 19 km south-southwest of Calaca, Philippines
- 95 km south-southwest of Manila, Philippines Joel Locsin/NB
