Moderate emission of white steam plumes that drifted toward northeast was observed. No crater glow was observed last night. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emitted at the crater averaged 259 tonnes/day on 09 December 2014, which is below the baseline level during normal periods. Ground deformation data from continuous tilt monitoring indicate that magma has stalled deep beneath the northern flanks of the volcano, although the edifice is still inflated or swollen compared to baseline levels.

Ground deformation measurements from GPS data also indicate an inflationary trend since May 2014, with the edifice being slightly inflated overall compared to February 2011 baseline data. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emission at the Main Crater Lake increased from 1800 tonnes/day in July 2014 to 2185 tonnes/day in November 2014.

Data from the ground deformation survey on January 20-31, 2015 indicated a deflation of the edifice relative to the November 27-29, 2014 survey, although the edifice remains inflated relative to baseline measurements beginning 2010. Data from continuous tilt monitoring indicate that magma has stalled deep beneath the northern flanks of the volcano, although the edifice is still inflated or swollen compared to baseline levels.

24 February 2015 8:00 A.M. Taal Volcano’s seismic network recorded four (4) volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours. Field measurements conducted on February 19, 2015 at the eastern sector of the Main Crater Lake yielded a slight increase in water temperature of 30°C from 29.4°C, a decrease in water level from 0.77 to 0.73 meter, and an increase in acidity from pH 3.08 to pH 3.07. Ground deformation measurements through precise leveling surveys on November 19 - 30, 2014 indicated slight inflation of the edifice compared to June 2014. Ground deformation measurements from GPS data also indicate an inflationary trend since May 2014, with the edifice being slightly inflated compared to February 2011 baseline data. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emission at the Main Crater Lake decreased from 2185 tonnes/day in November 2014 to 1980 tonnes/day in January 2015.
