phivolcsA strong distant earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 occurred at HALMAHERA, INDONESIA on 2015 MARCH 18 at 06:13 AM (Philippine Standard Time) located at 1.7 oN, 126.6 oE with depth of 53 km. No destructive Pacific-wide threat exists based on the historical and tsunami data. However, earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coast located within a hundred kilometers of the epicenter.
