TAAL VOLCANO BULLETIN 28 January 2015 8:00 A.M

TAAL VOLCANO BULLETIN 28 January 2015 8:00 A.M

Taal Volcano’s seismic network recorded ten (10) volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours. Field measurements conducted on January 22, 2015 at the eastern sector of the Main Crater Lake recorded an increase in water temperature from 29.7°C to 29.8°C, a decrease in water level from 0.90 to 0.83 meter, and a decrease in acidity from pH 3.09 to pH 3.10. Ground deformation measurements through precise leveling surveys on November 19 - 30, 2014 indicated slight inflation of the edifice compared to June 2014.

Report by the Director-General to the Special Session of the Executive Board on Ebola

Report by the Director-General to the Special Session of the Executive Board on Ebola

Mister chairman, distinguished members of the Executive Board, Excellencies, Ambassadors, colleagues in the UN system, ladies and gentlemen, The outbreak of Ebola virus disease in parts of West Africa is the largest, longest, most severe, and most complex in the nearly four-decade history of this disease. This was West Africa’s first experience with the virus, and it delivered some horrific shocks and surprises. The world, including WHO, was too slow to see what was unfolding before us.

TAAL VOLCANO BULLETIN 27 January 2015 8:00 A.M

Taal Volcano’s seismic network recorded six (6) volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours.

MAYON VOLCANO BULLETIN 27 January 2015 8:00 A.M.

Mayon Volcano’s seismic monitoring network did not detect any volcanic earthquake during the past 24 hours. Moderate emission of white steam plumes that crept downslope toward southwest, west-southwest and west-northwest was observed. No crater glow was observed last night. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emitted at the crater averaged 259 tonnes/day on 09 December 2014, which is below the baseline level during normal periods. Ground deformation data from continuous tilt monitoring indicate that magma has stalled deep beneath the northern flanks of the volcano, although the edifice is still inflated or swollen compared to baseline levels.

TAAL VOLCANO BULLETIN 26 January 2015 8:00 A.M.

Taal Volcano’s seismic network recorded four (4) volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours. Ground deformation measurements from GPS data also indicate an inflationary trend since May 2014, with the edifice being slightly inflated overall compared to February 2011 baseline data. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emission at the Main Crater Lake increased from 1800 tonnes/day in July 2014 to 2185 tonnes/day in November 2014.

Ebola crisis: Experimental vaccine 'shipped to Liberia'

The first batch of an experimental vaccine against Ebola is on its way to Liberia. The shipment will be the first potentially preventative medicine to reach one of the hardest hit countries. But experts say that, with Ebola cases falling, it may be difficult to establish whether the jab offers any protection against the virus.
