Typhoon Hagibis creeps closer to PH

MANILA - A typhoon off the country's Pacific coast will enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the middle of the week, the state weather bureau said Monday.

Typhoon Hagibis was packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and 150 kph gusts at 4 a.m., said PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz.

The country's potential 16th storm this year, which will enter PAR on Wednesday or Thursday, is unlikely to hit land, she said.

The easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific on Monday will bring generally fair weather that may be marred by rains in the afternoon or evening in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Dela Cruz added.

Hagibis approached the Philippines about a week after Typhoon Onyok brought rains to northern Luzon.
