Trough of LPA to affect E. Visayas; Typhoon Jebi moves closer to PAR

Published August 30, 2018 10:32 PM The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) may bring rain to Eastern Visayas, while a typhoon may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) sometime in the next few days, PAGASA said in its 24-hour weather forecast on Thursday.

As of 3 p.m., the LPA was 630 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

GMA News' resident meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz said the LPA had a low chance of developing into a tropical storm, but its trough or extension could cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas.

PAGASA also expects scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country are in for partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA is also monitoring a typhoon moving westward at 20 kph outside the PAR.

As of 3 p.m. on Thursday, Typhoon Jebi was 2,775 kilometers east of northern Luzon and packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kph, with gustiness of up to 195 kph.

Even if Jebi enters the PAR, it is not expected to make landfall. — Margaret Claire Layug/BM, GMA News
