Samuel makes landfall in Borongan, Eastern Samar

ABS-CBN News Posted at Nov 21 2018 03:04 AM | Updated as of Nov 21 2018 05:56 AM MANILA (UPDATE)- Tropical depression Samuel slightly weakened after it slammed into Borongan City, Eastern Samar, state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Samuel is now in the vicinity of Daram, Samar and continues to move west at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour (kph).

 

The tropical depression is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph, with gusts of up to 80 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 remains in place over the following areas: 

LUZON

  • Masbate, including Ticao Island
  • Romblon
  • Southern Oriental Mindoro
  • Southern Occidental Mindoro
  • Palawan, including Cuyo Island and Calamian Group of Islands

VISAYAS

  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Samar
  • Biliran
  • Leyte
  • Northern Cebu
  • Northern Negros Occidental
  • Guimaras
  • Iloilo
  • Capiz
  • Aklan
  • Antique

Samuel made landfall at 2 a.m in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

PAGASA warned residents in Western Visayas, Bicol Region, Mimaropa and southern Quezon against flooding and landslides.

More classes across the country were suspended due to the effects of Samuel.

Some towns in Northern Samar were also submerged in flood. 

Samuel, the 19th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year, is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as early as Thursday.
