Queenie slightly weakens, slows down; seen to exit PAR Friday morning

Typhoon Queenie (international name Kong-Rey) has slightly weakened and slowed down, and is still forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday morning, PAGASA reported on Wednesday.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Queenie was last spotted 795 km east of Basco, Batanes, packing a slightly weaker maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gustiness of up to 225 kph.

It was moving northwest at a slower 15 kph.

PAGASA said Queenie is still expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday morning.

It is not expected to make landfall and no storm warning signals are expected to be raised.

The weather bureau, however, said Queenie's trough is still expected to bring light to moderate rains in the eastern section of the country, including Cagayan, Aurora, Quezon, the Bicol Region, as well as eastern Visayas and Mindanao.
