Monsoon rains to continue until Sunday, PAGASA says

ABS-CBN News Posted at Aug 09 2018 06:55 AM MANILA - The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to affect parts of the country until Sunday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday morning.

Tropical storm Karding and a low-pressure area (LPA) will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, weather specialist Meno Mendoza said.

In PAGASA's 5 a.m. advisory, Karding was last spotted 1,265 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph), with gusts of up to 80 kph.

It is moving north northeast at a speed of 15 kph and is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Friday night or Saturday morning.

The LPA, meanwhile, was last located at 730 kilometers west of Northern Luzon.

Mendoza said the southwest monsoon will bring scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas until Friday.

Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will be experienced until weekend over the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon.

PAGASA warned of possible flooding in low-lying and mountainous areas affected by the southwest monsoon.

Sea travel also remains risky over the western seaboard of Luzon.
