Bacolod City (CNN Philippines) — A Korean student who shows symptoms of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) is still under quarantine at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City.

Dr. Carmela Gensoli, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Health Office, says that they are still waiting for the result of the throat swabbing conducted on the student.

Gensoli said the swab sample was already sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila yesterday (June 30).

The student arrived in Bacolod on June 26, and three days later started manifesting symptoms of MERS-CoV such as fever, cough, and sore throat.

The CHO is also tracing the other companions of the student who entered Bacolod.

The student was brought to a private hospital but was transferred to CLMMRH, which is identified by the Department of Health as the hospital to handle suspected or confirmed MERS-CoV cases in the province.
