Almost 2,000 families stay in various evacuation centers after Las Piñas fire

Published November 3, 2016 7:33am Almost 2,000 families who lost their homes in a predawn fire in Las Piñas City on Wednesday sought shelter in various evacuation centers, a report on Unang Balita on Thursday said.

Many of them stayed overnight at a covered court in BF Resort in Brgy. Talon Dos, making the place overcrowded, GMA News' Jay Sabale reported.

Schoolchildren could not go to school after fire engulfed their homes in Manggahan Compound in the said barangay.

Barangay officials fed the victims with porridge for breakfast at 4 a.m. on Thursday.

Residents said almost nothing was left of their possessions.

Around 800 houses were burned in the fire.

Authorities said damage to property is estimated at P50 million.

The other victims are staying in evacuation centers elsewhere in the city. —KG, GMA News
