MANILA, Philippines - The caretaker of a former firearms and ammunition factory in Quezon City was found dead after firefighters extinguished the blaze that started at the old warehouse before noon Thursday.

The charred remains of Ruben Villaflor were found by firefighters at the former ammunition factory on Don Jose Street, Barangay San Roque, in Cubao, Quezon City after the nearly three-hour fire was declared “fire out”.

The fire was believed to have started from a spark while Villaflor was defusing a bomb.

According to Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) records, the factory has been closed since 2014.

Residents shuddered in fear after learning that bombs were being made in the factory.

The BFP has sought the help of bomb experts from the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of Philippines to handle the remaining explosives in the factory.
