A magnitude-5 earthquake rocked parts of Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, yesterday morning but did not cause any damage or injury, state seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor occurred at 12:09 a.m. with its epicenter traced at 22 kilometers southwest of Nasugbu, Batangas.

The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Nasugbu and Intensity 2 in Pasay, Manila, Muntinlupa and Quezon cities.

The agency warned the public against possible aftershocks.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said a movement along the Manila Trench triggered the quake. The trench runs from the Batanes islands, curving through the waters off the Ilocos region, Pangasinan, Zambales and Mindoro. – Helen Flores
